HPDF Partnership Builds a Vision for the AI Era

Leading-edge science demands integration, and the U.S. Department of Energy’s science programs increasingly require advanced computation, data solutions, and networking.

The High Performance Data Facility, a first-of-its-kind project, is envisioned as a state-of-the-art resource for data science and research.

From coast to coast, Jefferson Lab in Virginia and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California will provide seamless services that enable scientific advancement through an integrated model. As a distributed facility across multiple sites, HPDF will achieve higher availability and reliability than a single site could. Additionally, the mix of resources at any site can vary to match specific local needs.

Data is the fuel of the AI revolution of the 21st century and the most valuable resource in the AI era. AI-driven science requires production-quality data services, a capability that does not exist today at the needed scale. HPDF will provide that capability.

HPDF will be a unique data-first facility that treats data as a first-class asset and provides the capabilities needed to extract maximum scientific value.
